Apple has released quiet a few betas for iOS 5 so far. Some snooping around in iOS 5 ipsw files has revealed that Apple might be planning to drop the 6th beta or perhaps the GM build on August 18th. This date was previously 17th August but Apple remotely updated it to August 18th.

The latest available release for download is iOS 5 beta 5 which has since been jailbroken by the iPhone Dev team [Follow our guide on how to jailbreak iOS 5 Beta 5]. The OS still has a lot of bugs which seem to be ironed out in every new release but we don’t expect Apple to drop a GM build until a majority of them have been fixed. We’ve also been seeing new iCloud features being activated in most new iOS 5 beta releases. Users have yet to see iTunes Match in action in iOS 5. Recently, iOS 5 beta 5 brought documents syncing along with the beta release of iCloud supported iWork apps for iOS.
iOS 5 is scheduled to launch this fall for iPhone, iPod and iPad. It is probably the biggest iOS release to date as it fixes many concerns users have had on missing features. iOS 5 includes a new notification center, iCloud syncing, Twitter integration and much more which bring it on par with competing mobile operating systems in terms of feature set. Although, in terms of experience, it still leaves them in dust as the notification center in iOS 5 is much better than Android’s implementation of notifications even though Apple seems to have been inspired by them.
Stay tuned as we keep you updated on the next iOS 5 release and other iOS news.
