Jailbreak iOS 5 Beta 6 On iPhone 4 / 3GS, iPad & iPod Touch 3G / 4G [UPDATE]

Today, the 6th beta of iOS 5 was released to developers which brought tons of bug fixes. You can read the full change log here. Like with every new iOS release, the first question we were asked was “can we jailbreak iOS 5 beta 6 with existing Redsn0w or Sn0wbreeze jailbreak tools?”. Luckily, the answer is Yes! We have received confirmations from multiple blogs that iOS 5 beta 6 can be pwned using Sn0wbreeze 2.8 b5 on Windows or Redsn0w 0.9.8b5 on both Mac / Windows computers.

If you’ve been updating to iOS 5 betas regularly and have also been following the jailbreak scene, you’d know that the newest beta release is jailbroken using the existing versions of Redsn0w or Sn0wbreeze tools using the same procedure as with older beta, except you need to point at the latest beta firmware when selecting .IPSW for jailbreak. In this case, you need to select iOS 5 beta 6 instead of beta 5 in both the jailbreak tools. The remaining steps should be exactly the same.

Remember, like all previous iOS 5 beta jailbreaks, this will be a tethered jailbreak. This means, you need to plug in your device to the computer using a USB cable each and every time you reboot your iPhone, iPod or iPad once it is jailbroken on iOS 5 beta 6. This can be achieved by Redsn0w on Mac / Windows and iBooty (included with Sn0wbreeze) on Windows computers. Also, beta releases and their subsequent jailbreaks are always intended for developers only. So if you don’t understand what you’re going to do, please DO NOT PROCEED!

For your convenience, below are the links to complete step-by-step guides for both Redsn0w and Snowbreeze tools required to jailbreak iOS 5 beta 6 on any of the following devices:

  • iPhone 4 GSM
  • iPhone 4 CDMA
  • iPhone 3GS
  • iPod touch 3G
  • iPod touch 4G
  • iPad

UPDATE #1:

Both current Redsn0w and Sn0wbreeze which were reported by early jailbreakers to be working on beta 6, are now confirmed to be NOT WORKING & are causing all sorts of problems as we have personally tested on two different devices.

It is best NOT TO ATTEMPT a jailbreak for iOS 5 beta 6 unless either Redsn0w 0.9.6 b6 or Sn0wbreeze 2.8 b6 is released. Of course we’ll update you the moment they come out. Stay tuned guys!

UPDATE #2:

Sn0wbreeze v2.8 Beta 6 has been released with full support for iOS 5 beta 6 jailbreak. Grab it from the following link:

Neither Sn0wbreeze nor redsn0w will recgonize and process the beta6 files.
Pointing it to the beta5 ipsw did just get me into a reboot loop on my 3gs, both tetherboot, and non-tetherboot.

Yes you are right..I guess most of the blogs got ahead of themselves without actually testing. I’ve personally tested it just now for my iPhone 4, and both Redsn0w and Sn0wbreeze won’t work.

Its best to wait for the updates, which shouldn’t take long for the devs to release!
